Do I need FTP software?

You are not required to use FTP to transfer files to your website.  There are other options, such as the File Manager feature of the Control Panel.  However, FTP is the best option for transferring a lot of files at once.

What FTP software do you recommend?

A popular Windows based FTP client is CuteFTP, which you can find out more about by clicking here.

How do I create / manage FTP accounts?

Each Control Panel user you create will have FTP access.  To create new users, use the "User Creation" link in your Domain CP.  To manage users, use the "Users Management" link.

When I try to upload files I get a "permission denied" error.  What's going on?

This probably means that you are trying to upload a file into a directory that you do not have write permissions for.  To change the permissions on a directory or file, select the directory in your Control Panel's File Manager and click "chmod".  From this form you can alter the read/write/execute permissions for the owner, the group, and everyone else (world).

Please note: there are certain system directories that you are not allowed to modify.

What other options do I have for deploying files to my website?

The Control Panel has a File Manager feature that you can use to upload files through a web browser.  However, this can be difficult to use when you're uploading more than 5 files at a time.

Another option is to use the scp command to transfer files over SSH.

Can I run an anonymous FTP server?

Sorry, we do not allow anonymous FTP servers.
